Let yourself be moved.

My neck feels like it wants to stretch and twist, so I let it, and then I’m sitting there in the strangest position – perched upright like a good Yogi, but with my left ear pressed hard against my left shoulder.  I don’t know why my head and neck want to do this, but I’m not going to argue with them; they are insistent.”

- Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert

Here is a statement that may at once seem both incredible and self-evident: sometimes we move our bodies but sometimes our bodies move us.  Such spontaneous movement can be as mundane as a sneeze or yawn. It can be as vital as breathing.  It can also be as mysterious as speaking in tongues, moving into spontaneous yoga postures, or, as in Elizabeth Gilbert’s case, finding one’s left ear inexorably pressed against one’s left shoulder.

Spontaneous Movement is a practice of exploring these deeper mysteries.  It is our own yoga, germinating from the wisdom of our own body and perfectly attuned to who we are and what we need physically, emotionally and spiritually. Throughout the process, our movements bring to consciousness what we as individuals need to learn to fully experience the grace and love that is at our core.  As a group, we share in the joy of what moves us and realize, in a very concrete way, that we heal each other and we move as one.

In the introductory session, we begin with a discussion of this phenomenon so that each participant may understand the experience intellectually.  Then we dive into the mystery, as each mover begins to understand viscerally rather than intellectually what is at once both natural and incomprehensible.  The process is learned through entrainment and the experience itself is the teacher.

An introductory session is required prior to joining an ongoing group.  Introductory and group sessions are held in Rye Brook in Westchester, NY.  Please email Laura at 2bemoved@gmail.com or call (917) 734-4391 for scheduling or further information.
